South Carolina State Parks

Where are we today?
The Oaks at Point South

We have been wandering around South Carolina since November 20th. Firstly up at Myrtle Beach and surroundings and now at The Oaks at Point South near Yemassee, SC. The park is not that big and is very shaded. What we liked about it is that it is so quiet. We spent 6 nights here as part of our Thousand Trails membership. so it was really cheap at $0. We did manage to pick up Dish satellite. I can imagine that it would be impossible in the summer when the trees have a full head of leaves. From here we have travelled to see Beaufort and Hunting Island State Park.

Not much happening at this end of the park
Big motorhome parked nearby with a big golf cart in the back of his toad, which is a Ford F150 truck.
South Carolina State Parks have a Snowbird Special. You can park at one of their coastal parks for 50% off, which comes to less than $500 a month, including electricity. You are allowed to park for a maximum of 30 days at each park and only in the months of December, January and February. With 6 parks in the program, it is hard to decide which park you want to go to. We took a look at Myrtle Beach State Park, Huntington Beach State Park and Hunting Island State Park. Hunting Island was, by far, the best of the lot in our opinion.

  1. We stayed at Hunting Beach State Park for 5 days in November and loved it. Such an interesting area with a lot to see and do. We are currently at the Jekyll Island campground in Georgia - another great stop on the way south and well worth a visit.

    1. We were going to stay at Jekyll Island, but after Hilton Head Island we are heading straight for Jacksonville to get the fridge door replaced. Maybe next time.
