Where are we today?
The Chateau at Lake San Marcos
Over here on the West coast, or California to be specific, I really dislike the fact we are on the left edge of civilization as we know it. Now, don't get me wrong. I love Southern California weather, anything has got to be better than 30 below and snow. What I am talking about is the fact that when I am ready to sit down and chat with friends back in the East, in the UK, the Middle East and in South Africa, they are all asleep. So I really feel rather isolated out here. We won't even discuss the friends over in Australia and New Zealand, after all they are a whole day ahead of us! I just feel sort of left behind and sorry for myself right now.
I'm on the west coast - I'll be your friend!! Not meaning to make light of your situation. I'm sure it is difficult when your friends are scattered all over the world. Hopefully you can set up a time to chat that meets somewhere in the middle.
ReplyDeleteThanks Donna. Actually written very tongue in cheek. But it does bug me from time to time.
DeleteSoon you will be back east and you can catch up!
ReplyDeleteHeavens, I have trouble with four time zones. I really wouldn't have a clue with other countries. But I am sorry you're feeling lonely. That's a terrible feeling. Hopefully the beautiful sunshine helps a little bit.
ReplyDeleteThanks Jim and Sandie,
DeleteSouth Africa and Zimbabwe are such fractured countries that we have all become scatterlings. Many, many of our friends and family have left our countries of birth and spread out across the globe. It is always such a joy to find people from your past, either through mutual contacts, Facebook or expat web sites. We can now claim friends all over the world.
Phone conversations from here (Vienna, Austria) are somewhat limited as well. If I want to deal with anyone on the phone I have to wait until the middle of my afternoon to catch them in the morning. That works for businesses or the banks, but for anyone working, forget it. By the time our kids get home from work, it's after midnight here. My brain is too fried to put a sentence together after about nine p.m., so everything has to wait until the weekend.
ReplyDeleteBut hey! There's always the internet!
Sure better than the first time I came to Europe back in the 70s. That was REALLY being cut off. Travellers cheques and putting letters in the mail. Oy.
Keep your spirits up.
I hear you, Bob. We still have interests in South Africa and they forget, when they call us it is usually in the early hours of the morning. Grrr. We love the internet and the convenience of emails etc. I go to bed with my iPad, just so I can check my email if I need a potty break during the night, the iPad goes with me. I know, TMI. but that is my realty. PS if we ever meet, don't tell Michael I told you this. LOL!
DeletePS. I always wondered who was looking at my blog from Austria. COOL!
