A cold start to a quiet day and a chance encounter

This morning we woke to a frosty -2C and frost on the ground and on the roofs of the park buildings. I am sure there was frost on the roofs of the RVs as well, but we could not see it. Took us a while to get moving out of our nice warm bed, but we did eventually emerge for breakfast and early morning computing. I took Timmy out for his morning pee pee. He sure was puzzled by the frost on the grass.

We were going to go to St Simons to the Apple repair store but decided to wait until we get to Orlando where we will have two weeks to get the computer fixed....and we will be on a new billing cycle on the credit card.


Yesterday I saw a Winnebago Brave pull in and then saw one of the occupants. "Hey, that's David" of Sherry and David of In the Direction of our Dreams blog. They travel in Winnona, their Winnebago. I had a short chat with David but was not able to reconnect last night. This morning I made sure I went over to see them before they left for Amelia Island. We had a very nice chat in Winnona, took photos and then they finished their breakfast and soon after 11 they pulled out.

The rest of the day we just hung around in the campground, took some photos and generally vegged out. Plans for tomorrow to actually go out and do something! Perhaps we'll go to St Mary's and look around, go on the submarine tour and eat some local fish! See ya later!

Hard Freeze on it's way!

We are at Walkabout Camp and RV Resort for a week. we didn't do much today except do a campground walkabout, go into Kingsland to get a few groceries and stop in at the Welcome Center to pick up some brochures and maps. There is a lot to see in this area, but with it being so cold, we really just feel like sitting inside the warm motorhome. Must.fight.that.feeling!
Of course we have all heard about the polar plunge that is happening in North America at the moment, and this is part of that phenomenon. It was reported in today's news that all 50 states are experiencing below freezing temps. So, the question tonight is...Do we disconnect the water? or do we leave it on but leave a tap inside the RV trickling slowly to keep the water moving?
Our Dutch Star has a heated underbelly with a fan to circulate warm air around the tanks, so we should be fine.
Hold thumbs for me to get my computer fixed tomorrow. Planning a trip to an Apple Certified facility to see what can be done.

The Sheldon Church Ruins

Is it really Camp Depression?

Our next stop was at The Oaks at South Point in Yemassee, South Carolina. This is a Thousand Trails park so it cost us nothing. We once met a lady here who travels on her own and she nicknamed this Campground "Camp Depression". We disagree, we quite like this campground as it is so peaceful.

While we were at Yemasee my computer stopped working. Nothing, nada, zip. The charging cable does not light up and the computer wont turn on. We went to Beaufort to have it checked at the Best Buy store. They used their cable and the same thing. No sign of life. so now I have to wait until we can get to an Apple Store to have it checked. I hope it is not too expensive to fix! Most of my photos are on my external drive so I cannot upload any to the blog.  Update...I fixed it!

The Oaks is quite close to Hunting Island, one of our favourite places. Arch and Anne Chisholm of The Accidental RVers were staying there for a few days and we got an invite for steamed shrimp and pie. Who could resist? so off we went for the afternoon. A walk on the lovely beach at low tide and then back to their site for this yummy shrimp, salad and home made bread, followed by Cranberry Apple crumble pie. Thank goodness my scale batteries are dead and it can't tell me bad news.

We met a French Broad in Asheville.

Our next night was at a Super Walmart in Williamsburg, Kentucky


and then we made our way down to North Carolina and Wilson's Riverside RV Resort. This is a Passport America campground and very convenient to Asheville. It is right on the French Broad River.

Two nights there gave us the time to spend a day in the beautiful city of Asheville. We took the Trolley tour which was wonderful because we got to see all the main parts of the city and get a commentary on the history of the city. We stopped in the city center and had a lunch at Mayfel's, a lovely little Louisiana style restaurant. Cat fish for Michael and shrimp burger for me, followed by coffee and beignets. Yummy!

The tour took us to Grove Park Inn where we got off and explored the Estes-Winn Antique Car Museum and art gallery.
