Camping World, Syracuse

My sister's home is very close to Hagerstown so it is very easy to jump onto the I 81 North. From there straight up to Syracuse and Camping World. We pulled in to the parking lot, asked permission to stay overnight, plugged in to their electrical outlet (30 amp). Did a bit of shopping in the store for some back tank deodorant and turned in for the night. We were up early the next morning and headed for the border.it took us all of 10 minutes to get through. Being a Sunday, the 401 in Ontario was very quiet.

Cedar Beach Park is not open yet, so we cannot go in. Instead we will reverse into the driveway of the Whitby house until Cedar Beach opens.

Visiting my sister in Keedysville, MD

We spent a few days with my sister in Keedysville, Maryland. She is doing a lot of renovations to her house, including a new fence around the back of their property to keep her recently adopted Chesapeake Bay Retriever in the yard. This does mean that we do not have as much room as we had in November to park the Seneca, but there is still enough space for us to get into the driveway if we keep our big slide in. We did not do anything other than a bit of outlet shopping and a new Apple computer for me. If you remember correctly my computer screen backlight died. I was coping with it by hooking up the small TV screen to the computer. This worked very well for the interim. I will get the old computer repaired and give it to our grandson. So a few quiet days with my sister, we picked up the temporary drivers license for Michael, much to his relief. I was pretty much under the weather for the stay, sleeping a lot and not really feeling up to par.

Chesapeake Thousand Trails and a trip to Yorktown VA.

After our very busy week in Myrtle Beach, we have now moved a bit further north to Gloucester, Virginia where the Chesapeake Thousand Trails Resort is situated on the west bank of the Piankatank River. We are very fortunate in that it is open so early in the season. I am not sure if it open all year or not. This is a very big campground with a lot of water around it. Mature trees and a small beach. It must be a very pretty campground in summer, however, right now it is pretty bleak. The weather has been cold with a nasty wind bowing over the icy waters of the river. We have just been taking things easy as Michael has not received his temporary drivers licence. We are really hoping it will be emailed to us by my sister in the next few days.

We found a take out place called Diggs where bought some wonderful crab cakes, devilled crab and crab muffins. Yummy!

It is DejaVu all over again

We are back at Cypress Camping Resort in Myrtle Beach. We arrived to the bad news that they are no longer a Coast to Coast resort. Luckily we had reserved our site before they left the system so no worries. They are now AOR (Adventure Outdoor Resorts) so we will have to decide if we will purchase this membership. The good thing about AOR is that they have 8 resorts in Ontario and at just $9 a night it may be a membership to consider. There are also a lot of campgrounds all over the US.

While we were here at Myrtle Beach we spent almost every day with our lovely friends, Russ and Trixie, who hail from Gravenhurst. They have been here since the beginning of February and will leave in the next few days. They are renting a small house in Surfside Beach, just 7 miles from us. We ate out at New China Buffet which is just a hop skip and a jump from their house. We went shopping at Camping World, and Hemricks and we walked on the beach with the dogs. Trixie babysat Timmy while we took a day trip to Charleston and we ate a few times at their house, helping them to finish up the rest of the food that they had in the house. We also ate at a little Seafood shack, enjoying Flounder fillets.

Hunting Island State Park

After leaving Thousand Trails, Orlando we did a long drive up to South Carolina against a strong north wind. I had booked our site, at Hunting Island State Park, quite recently and therefore got a really small site (#99) in the bushes! But that is OK, we have our own bed, shower, kitchen wherever we go, so the small site is just the thing to test our attitude. We have decided to like it, no matter what. We have the ocean just a short walk away. We have 50 amps and a water hookup, and Timmy is having a ball. He loves the beach, going crazy and running all over the place, sending up sprays of sand as he does his running and wheeling. A few exploratory gallops into the water before settling down to digging huge holes.

The weather was windy and cold the whole week. Last night we had some severe thunderstorms roll through with the threat of tornadoes. No tornado but some pretty strong winds with some small branches falling down onto the roof of the RV. Today it has been warm and still. It seems the weather blew itself out last night. I wish it had been like this the whole week!

Our site #99 was not the greatest site. It was pretty small and we were at the junction of 2 campground roads.

I met up with my old school friend, Sheila, from Hilton Head Island and the two of us went to the Shrimp Shack for their shrimp burgers. Don't know why they are so popular as we both thought they were decidedly under whelming. Stodgy shrimp burgers on doughy white bread buns with a smear of tartar sauce. Michael and I went back a few days later and bought some flounder fillets and fries which was very tasty.

Sheila and I went to the Penn Center in St Helena. This was very interesting and is totally worth the visit. It is not a big museum, but is very interesting. It was the first school for freed slaves on the Island of St Helena. I did not get any photos inside the museum, but here is one of Sheila and I taken outside.
