Living it up in Salome.

Well, not exactly living it up. We have just been taking it easy. Walks, reading, computer updates, swims and soaks in the hot tub. Until today, the weather has been just great. Today was cloudy and cool.

Timmy enjoys his walks around new neighbourhoods. They are always a great adventure for him with new smells around every corner and under every bush. There is a warning about venomous snakes being out so we are always very watchful for rattlers.

Next to the campground is a gift store which is crammed with stuff, both inside and out. Lots of ceramics, blankets and other ornaments imported from Mexico. Outside there is a huge collection of "Yard Art". We have no inclination to buy anything or take it back to Canada so it was good to look and walk away.

Today was the park's pot luck dinner. We did not go, instead I made a fantastic Lamb stew in my Instant Pot. I just love that appliance.

Our neighbours left today. Hope they don't fill these spaces too soon.

The outdoor metal sculptures were very cool indeed...and VERY expensive. If you had the money to spare you could drop a thousand or more on some of these.

Life in Salome and a drive to Wickenburg.

Salome, AZ

Yesterday we drove a few miles along US 60 to get some milk and cheese. Boy, these little grocery stores know how to charge! I guess they know that we are not going to drive long distances for a few items. On Wednesday through Friday there is a small fresh produce market nearby so we went and got some great veggies and fruit.

After lunch I had a lovely swim in the pool which is 90F. A little too warm but very nice anyway. A soak in the 103F hot tub and I was done. Michael also had a dip in the pool but he is not a hot tub person so he came back to the trailer to spend the afternoon reading and baby-sitting Timmy. Later on in the afternoon we watched two acrobatic planes practicing maneuvers above us. Wowee! Sometimes it looked as if they were going to collide.

This morning we decided to drive to Wickenburg 55 miles away, and then maybe to the Vulture Gold Mine.  Our first stop was the Old Railway station where we found the Tourist Information office. They gave us a brochure with a walking tour around the Historical Old Town. We did about half the tour before our tummy's told us it was time for lunch. We had Timmy with us so we had to find a restaurant with a patio. We ended up at Mecca Bar and Grill. Their special of the day was fish and chips. Sounded pretty good to me but it was awful! Frozen fish from a box and frozen formed chips which were undercooked. However we managed to eat enough to get rid of the hunger pangs.

One thing that amused me was the fact that all the properties on the historical tour are younger than our house in Whitby, Ontario which was built in 1853.

We ended up not going to the mine because it was another 40 minutes to get there and 40 minutes back to US60 and it was getting too late. Maybe we will go in the next few days. 

This is a big ATV and OHV area and almost all the campers here have at least one Off Road vehicle. There are over 300 miles of trails in the BLM land around here. You can hear the roar of vehicles coming and going all day. I would not mind finding someone who would take us out into the desert. Must be fun.

All around the town were "statues" of characters who might have lived in the town back in the day. Press the little green button to the right of the teacher and hear a story about her.

Moving on from Quartzsite

This morning we were up early (well, early for us) and had a light breakfast and took Timmy out for his morning walk. Goodbyes all round for those us who are still here. George and Suzie had left a little earlier and were headed west to Borrego Springs. That left just Gerry and Melinda and Rick and Kathy  behind for a few more days at La Posa South.

We drove by the dump station but there were 4 rigs ahead of us so we decided to just carry on to our next stop carrying all the grey and black water on board. It was only 30 miles to Salome KOA. We are staying here under our RPI membership and so we are only paying $14 a night. A really good deal. Full hook up and free internet. It is a really nice park but in the back of beyond. In fact it is near the town of Nothing, AZ. On our way here we drove past a place called Hope. We were very amused to see a sign that said "You are now beyond Hope".  So it is going to be a very quiet week and time to catch up on computer and app updates, laundry and have some long hot showers. There is also a nice pool and hot tub that I will be trying.

We have a back in site and we are surrounded by RVs. We are both feeling a little claustrophobic after the wide open spaces on the BLM land. Boondocking in the desert has really grown on us.

Tonight's Sunset

I'm Baaaack!...sort of.

We are camped at La Posa South in Quartzsite and I went to the Blogger Fest here on Saturday. So, my resolve is to, once again, make entries on the blog. I saw that there were over 20 visits to my site on Sunday, so here goes. I have almost no internet here but on Wednesday we are going to a full hookup park which has good internet. I will try and update what news we have then.
