Cabot, Cabazon and Cakes

We were up early this morning and I took a walk about and took some more photos of Catalina Spa and RV Resort. The air was fresh and the birds were out singing. A glorious morning!. After breakfast we drove over to the Cabot Pueblo Museum. The Docent met us at the gate, but we did not do the tour ($9:00 each), maybe next time. We walked around the grounds and looked at the buildings from the outside. While there we saw a Roadrunner up on the roof of one of the buildings. Interesting place with a magnificent view of the mountains. It was fun trying to imagine what this man's life was like here at the Pueblo and how he would react to this modern world with wind turbines and solar panels everywhere. Wiki Clicky

A most unusual collection of buildings

After the museum we decided to drive to the Desert Hills Premium Outlets at Cabazon to get a swim suit for me and shoes for Michael. On the way we stopped to take some photos of the Dinosaurs, again we did not go into the pay area where they have the mechanical dinosaurs, but took a few photos of the big concrete ones outside the enclosure.

We went all the way to the Outlets and we could not find anything, so back to Palm Springs and Sherman's Deli and Bakery. There was a 20 minute wait for a table and it was well worth it. We had the best Reuben Sandwich.

Their bakery section has the most delicious looking cakes and other bakery goods, but we resisted the temptation and came back to the resort. 

Another nice swim and a soak in the hot water before a light soup supper.

Wind, Water and it's not my Fault

The weather reports have told us that the wind will blow for the next 2 to 3 days. It started blowing last night, then died down overnight. By this afternoon it was blowing pretty hard, but once again it has calmed down. Another windy day tomorrow, I think.

This morning we drove over to the Coachella Valley Preserve to the East of us. (I have put the link on here, but it is a terrible web site). This is where you can see a pretty awesome oasis called Thousand Palms, (this link is to a wonderful page with photos taken by a New Zealander. Don't know who he is, but the photos are great!) The Oasis is created by water that is coming up through the San Andreas Fault. From the Visitor's Center you walk about a mile to the beautiful pool in amongst the palm trees. After the oasis there is path to Vista point, a view point on a hill overlooking the valley. We went up there and took some photos. By midday the wind was starting to blow pretty hard, so down we came and drove down into Cathedral City for buns and gas for the car. When we got back to the Resort, I went and had a nice soak in the hot spa and then sat in a sheltered spot and read my book until I was dry. Couldn't get into the pool as there was a very boisterous game of Water Volleyball going on.

Oh, for Cripes Sake!!!

We came up here to Desert Hot Springs to have a 5 day break. We had heard from other RVers and Bloggers that Catalina Spa and RV Resort is really nice. I have to agree with them. It is just wonderful and the other RVers so friendly! We are in good company here, just about everyone being retired, well as far as we have seen so far. The resort is large and there are 2 pools and 2 hot spas, fed by a deep well, drawing water directly from the underground hot springs.

What you may not realize (unless you have stayed up here) is that we are in a very seismically active area. That translates to "we are very close to the San Andreas fault!!" So where do we go to see the fault? I went onto a site about seeing the fault, expecting to see that is several miles away. Well, folks, guess what! IT IS RIGHT IN OUR BACK YARD!! and we can walk there, just out the back wall of the resort. No wonder they put a sheet of paper into our Welcome Pack,  detailing what to do in the case of an earthquake. Yikes!! Whether or not you can actually see anything here, we will see tomorrow when we take a walk over that way.

We took a quick drive up to VONS in the town for some groceries and then came back and went for a dip in the pool and the spa. It is wonderful. I'll take photos of the pool areas tomorrow.
