Wonderful Wednesdays!!!

For Christmas we gave Virginia a Kindle Touch 3G. She previously has a Kindle 3G with keyboard which she found very difficult to navigate.

Another gift we have given her is Wonderful Wednesdays. This is a surprise gift that we will give to her every Wednesday. I got this idea from a Facebook friend of mine, who always had a special adventure on Fridays. Tomorrow we are going to do some pre-arranged chores around Vista, San Marcos and Oceanside and then we will take her to dinner at Fish House Vera Cruz in San Marcos.

Further to her fall on Christmas Day in San Diego, she has been having a lot of pain in her lower back and I firmly believe that she has a hairline fracture and some bruising in her pelvis, perhaps her Ischial Tuberosity.

Next week's Wonderful Wednesday will be.... still researching something wonderful! As she is in her 92nd year we have some limitations, but we mean to make our visit here in SoCal a good time for her as well. So watch this space to find out about next weeks adventure!

Driving Miss Virginia

It was another glorious day in SoCal. V had some appointments so I drove her around while Michael took down her Christmas decorations. Back home for a cold salmon and salad supper. The usual post Christmas diet has begun! I once heard a joke.. It went like this...A diet is a period of food deprivation immediately preceding a gain in weight! Hope this is not so.

We are HERE

Extreme Cold Weather Alert....OH No!

Extreme cold weather alert?? Yes, in Toronto! On the other hand, our weather here in Escondido is really glorious. 

Today is a driving Miss Virginia day. She has a dental appointment which she had to cancel last week as she has gastro-enteritis. Our days are settling into a nice rhythm. Up between 8 and 9, breakfast, then some computing and talking about ideas for the day. A good 2 to 3 mile walk, then reading, chatting with our neighbours or, sometimes going to the supermarket or camping world or a visit over to V. We are looking for a good rail trail for bike riding. We have only been down to the ocean once since we have been here. Must do that again while we still have good weather.

A quiet day

At about midday we decided to try the bike trail around Lake Hodges. Took the bikes over there and set off. We found out pretty quickly that it was a trail way beyond our capabilities as we do not have mountain bikes and I tend to fall off every so often, so we came home again and took a nap! Isn't it wonderful that we can do exactly what we want?

Hello 2012!! Happy New Year!

We had a great meal at The Chateau and then watched the festivities in Times Square, New York. That was at 9:00 pm California time, but that was the latest the old folk could stay up. Here are some pictures from the evening.
