A flurry of activity

I advertised some stuff on Kijiji.ca and it was all sold. I sold 2 tow hitches, a bike rack and 2 filing cabinets.

I have spoken to a friend (Hermien) in the real estate business and she says DO NOT SELL!! Rent the condo furnished to a business if possible.
Businesses around the area are always looking for places to temporarily house visiting executives. I had heard that the local power generating station is doing some refurbishments and they will be bringing in people. We also have numerous office buildings in the area that may be interested. For a furnished rental we may get top dollar. By renting, it means that we still have the use of the storage locker downstairs for storing out of season clothes and those things that may still be of use to us. Not cutting the cord completely. Full timing may not work out and then we will have somewhere to come home to.

Good advice, Hermien! She and her hubby, Dirk are coming round in a couple of weekends time to help us to dress the house for photos and offer some help. What a friend!!

The map of our return trip, Oceanside to Pickering, via Kings Canyon, Yosemite, Yellowstone, and Winkler

Map of our trip to Oceanside

Late July, early August we hope to take the Motor home up to Winkler, Manitoba to get the fiberglass repaired. On the way we will stop in to see a young lady, Debbie, and her family from Yellowwood Park, in Kwa-Zulu Natal. I taught her to swim back in the 80's. Her brother Wade, was a friend of my son's. Then we use the car to drive to California where we will stay with Virginia for anywhere from 2 weeks to 2 months. This is the route we will probably take, going via Mount Rushmore

News from work is not good

There are layoffs up on the unit where I used to work. Some of my friends are losing their jobs. What a daft world we live in! We NEED nurses and the powers that be treat them this way. I went through it all back in 1996. It is awful and very stressful. In my case I was able to bump someone who was lower in seniority to me, who in turn bumped someone else. In the long run, I don't think many people actually lost their jobs. It is all an exercise in futility and frustration. My heart goes out to them.

Fiberglass problems

Posted by Picasa

These are the little holes in the fiberglass. If you enlarge the pictures by clicking on them, you will see that there is a lot of damage and they are already starting to delaminate.

It looks as if there were small bubbles or holes in the Filon coating and with the thawing and freezing we have in the winter, coupled with moisture, the holes have become larger. The same thing happens to our roads up here in the Great White North!!

99 days left today.

Ok, this is getting boring, but we have made our decision......again! This time for sure. We will sell the condo and leave for Southern California by way of Winkler, Manitoba sometime in July or the beginning of August. Returning Septemberish. So condo going on the market next week, or just after Easter. We will be very poor in money but rich in experiences.

We have to go via Manitoba because the motor home has some fiberglass issues and can only be repaired by the manufacturer, Triple E. Apparently the company that did the fiberglass, Filon, did a shoddy job and lots of motorhomes have this problem. An extra 1000 kms or so out of our way!! Lucky they are going to do the repair for free!!

Or maybe not. Perhaps it is 286 days?? Or More??

I have just spoken to Virginia and she seems to think that she will not need my help in the foreseeable future. So the big question???? Do I leave or not? Do I see the project through at work? But.... the process is started to find my replacement. This whole thing is messing with my brain. I will have to find out what the position is at work.

112 days!!!

Things are progressing well at home. We have sold quite a lot of stuff and boxes are going into storage.

News from California is more postive as my American Mother's cancer is not as bad as we first thought. Her prognosis is good. 5 plus years. She needs to have a bit more surgery and the oral therapy and radiation.

In July when we have retired, we will not drive the MH down to San Diego as we will be staying with Virginia in her house and would have to store the MH at about $200 a month. It will also cost us over $800 in fuel to get there, so we will drive down in the Saturn and camp or motel it on the way. Much cheaper.

117 days to go!!

Working frantically to get rid of stuff, pack stuff, donate stuff and sell stuff. Question....do we recarpet before we sell? What about the cracked kitchen tiles?? What about the cruddy vanities in the bathrooms?? Why do I have so many little things lying around?? Paper clips, pencils, pens, safety pins, just myriads of little things that really don't have anywhere to go. Cables by the hundreds. The original hardware is gone long ago. But I still have the cables. Piles of wrapping paper, ribbons, cards, tape. How am I going to do it????
