A circular drive to Parker Dam, a swap meet, burros and fantastic views

Someone here in the park told us about a swap meet or flea market up at the La Paz County Park north of Parker so we decided to go and see if there was anything that we absolutely had to have. A quick drive across the Colorado, through Parker and we found the County Park. It was a small market with just a few stalls, maybe because there were rain showers and a cold wind blowing. Didn't take long to walk around the booths. We bought 2 chocolate chip cookies and a bag of avocados.

At the county park there is a campground, so we took a drive around that. Lots of rigs parked really close together. Some nice sites along the river with a cabana. Fairly reasonable prices.

One awning was touching the trailer next to it.

I love Arctic Fox RVs. Wish we could afford one.

Then we carried on further north, stopped in at Buckskin Mountain State Park, and then to Parker Dam, back across the Colorado and southward back home. We saw wild burros, lots of RV resorts and amazing scenery. Check out our photos.

Emerald Cove on the Colorado

We arrived here at Emerald Cove across the river from Parker, AZ. It is a Colorado River Adventure's resort and as such there are only members and affiliates here. We are here under our Coast to Coast membership and therefore it is only costing us $10 a night.

We love the resort. Our site in on the end of the row so we do not have anyone next to us on one side. We are very close to the pool area and store and just across the road from the riverfront. The only downside is the bathrooms that are badly in need of renovation.

We are members of RVillage and as soon as we were settled I updated my location to say that we had arrived. We received a few messages from members who were here already. One of them was Russ Wallace and we were invited to have Happy Hour with them at their trailer which was on the bank of the river. We will be meeting up with them again in Needles when we go there next week. Russ' blog is Destination Unknown

Dining shelter, A, B, C or 5er?? That is the question...

Salome, AZ

Up early this am. Timmy must be wondering what is going on because we are not usually up so early. A quick potty walk for him before breakfast and then settling down to catch up on emails, blogs, news and Facebook. Then open up the online bank and pay the credit card bills. It is amazing how quickly they add up. Anyway all the bills are paid and everything is right with the world.

Our daughter Suzanne informed us that they were going to be hit with an ice storm today. Something we do not miss. No matter how cool and windy the weather is here, it is not as bad as in Ontario. I am thankful.

Short walk down to The Market just north of us. It was so full of junk that I totally forgot to take pictures. The owners are from Wisconsin and they have the place up for sale. I asked them how long it had been on the market. "oooh, a year or two" was the answer. I doubt they will ever sell it. Salome is a very depressed area. They had better clean the place up if they ever want to have a chance to sell it. They are very old and from the looks of them, not in the best health. I wish them luck. 

The rest of the day was spent reading. Michael is getting to the end of Ken Follett's Century Trilogy. I am just starting. Thank goodness for eReaders. I would hate to lug those heavy books around. 

I also spent quite a bit of time checking out different RVs. Our little trailer is very nice and cozy, but it is just a bit too cozy. We may upgrade to something like a Class C. We have a car that is set up to be towed plus all the necessary equipment to tow it so it makes sense that we should look for a motorhome. I have also looked at bigger trailers and 5th wheels (we would have to get a bigger truck which would be very costly). B Class RVs are just too small. Another A Class?? I do know that we will not get a big diesel again. Just too expensive to maintain! Maybe a used A Class gasser. Our friends, George and Suzie Yates had the right idea when they chose theirs. Those models are few and far between. Nice because of the aluminum outside and roof. 

I even looked at Super C motorhomes but those are so expensive. Maybe we should keep what we have and just buy a dining shelter to use in inclement weather. We shall see.

Tomorrow we pack up and move north to Parker where we will be staying at Emerald Cove RV Resort. Another membership park.

Living it up in Salome.

Salome, Arizona

Well, not exactly living it up. We have just been taking it easy. Walks, reading, computer updates, swims and soaks in the hot tub. Until today, the weather has been just great. Today was cloudy and cool.

Timmy enjoys his walks around new neighbourhoods. They are always a great adventure for him with new smells around every corner and under every bush. There is a warning about venomous snakes being out so we are always very watchful for rattlers.

Next to the campground is a gift store which is crammed with stuff, both inside and out. Lots of ceramics, blankets and other ornaments imported from Mexico. Outside there is a huge collection of "Yard Art". We have no inclination to buy anything or take it back to Canada so it was good to look and walk away.

Today was the park's pot luck dinner. We did not go, instead I made a fantastic Lamb stew in my Instant Pot. I just love that appliance.

Our neighbours left today. Hope they don't fill these spaces too soon.

The outdoor metal sculptures were very cool indeed...and VERY expensive. If you had the money to spare you could drop a thousand or more on some of these.
